Chicks Dig Beer

At a beer festival in 2007, in a moment of drunken clarity, a girlfriend and I decided that there needed to be a forum for women who like beer (and I don't mean light or fruity ones!). We immediately came up with a name: chicksdigbeer.com, and my husband bought me the domain for my birthday. The rest is... history?

Little things to be thankful for...

In addition to getting to spend time with my way cool in-laws AND eating lots of New Mexico chile AND learning to shell/ eat pinon this Thanksgiving, one additional perk was getting to enjoy me some Fat Tire. See, we can't get Fat Tire in Michigan, and it is hands down one of my favorite beers. And it was on sale! BONUS!

Another happy happening was reading the Frontier Airlines' inflight rag, Wild Blue Yonder, while we were stuck in jet traffic at the Denver airport. (Thanksgiving weekend + snow= de-icing a shitload of planes) During my two hour (!) visit to the tarmac, I glanced through the mag during commercials (yes, commericals) and found this nice little article on pairing beers with traditional Thanksgiving food. But the best part of that little two hour vacation: Frontier offers DirecTV on their flights for $5.99 per flight. However, while you're on the ground, you get a 'free preview'. Two hours from pushback until take off meant that I got to watch the entire first half of the Colts game for free! Sweet!

Two Great Things that Go Great Together

For many of us, this is a big weekend. Notre Dame is playing their home opener as we speak (vs. San Diego State- I'm giving M grief since he has degrees from both), and my beloved Colts open tomorrow night against my other favorite team, da Bears.

On top of all THAT, today is our first "game day" in Ann Arbor. We can hear the PA announcer from our house and many of our neighbors have lawns covered with parked cars. Driving to the Kerrytown Farmer's Market this morning, we got to observe UM students at their finest. If by finest you mean jaywalking, playing beer pong, and funneling beer down from the roofs of their porches. :-)

It also means an excuse for us to break out the beer a bit earlier in the day than usual, so we're trying beer #2 of our Bello Vino haul: Phin & Matt's Extraordinary Ale, from Southern Tier Brewing Company. It's an American Pale Ale, and while it smells nice, it's missing something. I'm wondering if it's the artesian water, as to me it tastes almost "too pure". M thinks it's like a bunny rabbit with one leg: no hop. Don't get me wrong, I'll finish my beer, but I don't think we'll be buying this one again. Sorry, guys.
