Chicks Dig Beer

At a beer festival in 2007, in a moment of drunken clarity, a girlfriend and I decided that there needed to be a forum for women who like beer (and I don't mean light or fruity ones!). We immediately came up with a name: chicksdigbeer.com, and my husband bought me the domain for my birthday. The rest is... history?

Super Liquor IV

So we FINALLY made it to Super Liquor IV last Friday, en route to our first exposure to whirlyball. For the uninitiated (as we were), whirlyball is much like lacrosse or polo, but played indoors in BUMPER CARS. You play in teams of 5, with very few rules other than "keep your hands inside the cars at all times for fear of dismemberment", and each game lasts 12 minutes. At the end of 12 minutes, the teams adjourn to the waiting area to drink beer. Maybe it's just me, but this seems to be one of those 'athletic endeavors' where people really do play better after a few.

But I digress. Super Liquor IV is between points A and B, so we stopped in to fuel up. I can't begin to describe the squeal I emitted when I saw that they carry Speakeasy beers from San Francisco!!! AND a whole host of Abita beers!!! I didn't have time to check out the entire selection, only the cooler, but next time... oh yes.... time will be spent perusing the aisles. Who knows what I might find? If they carry Dixie or El Toro, M may have to carry me out on a stretcher....

Sometimes, Life Gets in the Way...

I can't believe I haven't posted anything since May 4, but hey, sometimes life gets in the way! My bro was here visiting, hubby was home for a week, I'm trying to wrap up loose ends at work AND... we bought a house in Ann Arbor! Yay! (and yes, it is within walking distance of downtown)

My brother, Mr. PBR, was here on business shortly after my last post, so we took him down to Morgan Hill to visit the good peeps at El Toro Brewing. Yummy (and interesting) food: El Toro's Famous Original Dog Tacos, hot dogs stuffed with cheddar and jack cheeses, wrapped in corn tortillas then deep fried (like taquitos or rolled tacos), served with the usual suspects, salsa, guac, sour cream, etc. Definitely not for the health food set! I had pulled pork and it was TASTY.

Anyway, one of the things I love about this place is that you can choose your hops. Seriously- you can order a Poppy Jasper "extra hoppy" and tell them which particular hops variety you'd like. They "spike" a finished keg with an extra pound of hops, and usually have 4-5 different Poppy Jasper varieties on tap! They also have a pretty amazing menu of beers for a small brewery: check out the list of barleywines. But you HAVE to have a Poppy Jasper- it's a rule. Or it should be.
