Chicks Dig Beer

At a beer festival in 2007, in a moment of drunken clarity, a girlfriend and I decided that there needed to be a forum for women who like beer (and I don't mean light or fruity ones!). We immediately came up with a name: chicksdigbeer.com, and my husband bought me the domain for my birthday. The rest is... history?

Brewtopia!

In case anyone in the NYC area is reading this, a non-profit near and dear to the Beer Chicks needs your help. One Brick is pouring beer at Brewtopia at Pier 92 inNYC on October 31 and November 31 AND will be a beneficiary of the event! Volunteers get a t-shirt and get to check out a really cool event for free. Costumes are welcomed, and it could be the start of a fun Halloween out on the town! Help a great organization, have fun, play some tricks, get some treats... could you ask for a better Halloween?

Get more info here: One Brick and Brewtopia.

And speaking of Halloween, right now I'm enjoying Great Lakes Brewing's Nosferatu- the vampire beer! I was warned that it's strong, and they weren't kidding. At 8% ABV, it is a buttkicker! That being said, it is TASTY. The dark red ale is a gorgeous color, hoppy and rich, with a nice balance and smooth finish. I wish it was available year round!

Blue Frogs and Silicon Blondes

We're wrapping up our last full weekend in California, and spent yesterday afternoon volunteering at the Sunset Magazine Celebration Weekend. Luckily most One Brickers got to spend the afternoon pouring beer and wine for the masses. Yay us!

Before we started our shift, M and I decided to sample a couple of beers and discovered Blue Frog Grog & Grill. They were pouring their Big DIPA, which lived up to its name: a big, hearty IPA! YUM! They were nice peeps, too, so pay them a visit next time you pass through Fairfield.

Later in the shift I found myself in the enviable position of "assistant pourer" in the Devil's Canyon booth! It's no secret how much I love their beer, and I'm VERY sad I'll no longer be able to enjoy it on a regular basis. At Sunset, they were pouring Silicon Blonde and Hellraiser Hefeweizen as well as selling their logo pint glasses and t-shirts. Good peeps there too; check out Beer Friday, the last Friday of every month, when they open their doors to the public!

Not even funny

Last weekend a group of friends went to downtown San Jose for a benefit comedy show, then dinner at a nearby establishment. I highly recommend Comedysportz. but can't say the same for our dinner stop.

For an establishment that seems to be really popular with SJSU students, San Jose Bar & Grill was woefully empty on a Saturday night. Maybe it was due to the holiday weekend, or SJSU graduation, or maybe it was because they were OUT OF THE GOOD BEER. Seriously- they were out of Fat Tire, Anchor Steam, and their hefeweizen on a Saturday night! How does that even happen? Sadly, when we got our dinner bill, I learned that I had just paid $5.50 for a pint of beer that I didn't even like. $5.50 in downtown San Jose?!? I think the only time I've paid that much for a pint recently was at either a ballpark, concert, or airport, where I was a "captive audience". *sigh*

Luckily I got to taste a good beer later in the week, when I had lunch at Los Gatos Brewing Co. I really enjoyed their pale ale!

Two great things that taste great together

Volunteering and beer. They go together like peanut butter and jelly. Like cheese and crackers. Seriously!

I'm involved with this fantastic non-profit, volunteer run organization called One Brick and last night, after a couple hours of bagging groceries (a much better workout than you might think!), I was sooooooo ready for a nice cold beer. After every event, we adjourn to a nearby restaurant or pub for some grub and libation, and last night we visited the Firehouse Grill and Brewery. I hadn't been there since the place first opened, and hadn't been particularly impressed on that visit, but figured hey, it's a brewpub, and I'm famished! I had their Red Ale and have to say, it was quite delish! It had a little spicy flava and went with my BBQ pork pizza nicely. Cheers!

Coming up on Friday, not only is it leap day, it's also BEER FRIDAY! We heart Devil's Canyon, but watch out for that Habanero Brew- it's not for the weak.

Here's your "duh" moment for the day: chicks do dig beer and finally somebody recognizes! Thank you, Mr. Beaumont- spread the word!!
